Xpeng's Huge Investment in Humanoid Robotics
Up to $13.8 Billion investment? Hard to believe.
In China there are many futuristic EV makers with bold ideas about innovation and the future of hardware. Alibaba backed Xpeng has the distinction of making prototypes of both flying cars and humanoid robots. In fact, we might want to pay attention, Xpeng’s chairman recently said it plans to start mass production of its flying car model and industrial robots by 2026.
This is also part of the Alibaba stock story, because Alibaba owns a significant 7.5% stake in XPeng Inc. Xpeng is reportedly set to invest up to $13.8 billion (100 billion yuan) on humanoid robots to rival companies like Tesla and others.
Xpeng Robotics has recently made significant strides in developing its humanoid robot, named Iron. Unveiled at the company's AI Day event, Iron stands 1.72 meters tall and weighs about 70 kg. The robot is designed with 60 joints that provide it with impressive movement capabilities, mimicking human actions with a range of 200 degrees of motion in its joints.
