What is the Apple Ring?
The smart ring is the next wearables craze as it will usher in gesture and voice commands into a new era of ambient computing.
Hey Everyone,
I love a good Minority Report-esque story.
I’d be really interested in an Apple ring product. Apple has quite a deep history over parents involving this technology. Samsung is also as such, pursuing it as well.
As Amazon’s Lord of the Rings content is about to drop, suddenly an Apple Ring doesn’t sound as ridiculous.
With VR coming as well, Apple could be developing “one ring to rule them all”. It has been developing the UI components toward such a launch for years. Following patent buzz is usually not my thing, but Apple is not your average company.
The act of filing a patent doesn’t necessarily mean that the new invention is rapidly approaching the point of being commercially available, but it seems likely that the company is more serious about the idea than they have been in the past.
With the rising influence of ApplePay, a ring would be somewhat handy. So what pray tell could do with a mere ring? Would it be able to interact with forthcoming Apple software for smart cars? (CarPlay)
This isn’t Apple’s first foray into the idea of a ‘smart’ ring. They filed a patent for a similar device back in 2015, but ultimately didn’t do anything with it. This time around, things are different – a competitor already has a similar product on the market. But it won’t be Samsung or Amazon that will have a smart ring to compete with Apple? Nobody could compete if this product is indeed coming.
