So the sad history of social media is now upon us, as American apps including Instagram clone China. That’s right Instagram is now just like TokTok.
It’s dystopian as hell. All streaming looks like Netflix and all video feeds now will soon look like TikTok. As if that was what we needed? This is Zuckerberg admitting that it’s the Sunset of the Social Network (Axios).
Although the company has not rolled it out to all users yet, the changes seem in line with its intention to move away from its original model of photo sharing among friends, to the one pioneered by TikTok: showing as much algorithmically targeted video content as possible and juicing engagement wherever practical.
When Silicon Valley needs to copy China, you know there is a problem, when that company is based in Beijing. That company would be ByteDance.
